About Us

The Centre for Marine Vessel Development & Research (CMVDR) was recently restructured to expand its services and resources to a wider set of clients. It now provides expertise and services in solid and computational mechanics with emphasis in analysis of vessels, pipelines, risers and various off-shore and on-shore structures. It also provides destructive and non-destructive testing services, especially for characterizing advanced materials (especially composites) used in formation of such structural components. The Centre has therefore been renamed Ocean Research Centre Atlantic (ORCA).

Mission Statement
The newly-restructured Centre is dedicated to carrying out research and tests in the areas of Naval/Marine and Off-Shore Engineering, on topics of particular interest to the Atlantic Provinces' research and industrial communities. The Centre facilitates the transfer of technology between universities, government, and industry. The Centre also provides research opportunities for students from Dalhousie and other universities in the Maritimes.
